Making Zero Waste

Educational Workshop

Lagos, Nigeria &

Accra, Ghana

The Making Zero Waste Project aimed to advance the practice of zero waste fashion design within local textile industries in Lagos, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana.

We advocated for the elimination of waste in the design process by inspiring local tailors, upcyclers, designers and educators to re-think their waste strategies and re-imagine waste as an opportunity, as they design products for a better future.

Participants gained knowledge about the theories, context and construction of zero waste pattern cutting and design. Throughout these workshops, participants explored and learned together, how ZWD can draw inspiration from the rich tapestry of African textile traditions and histories, while complimenting today’s contemporary fashion.

  • Deliver workshops that engage, educate and inspire via local context

  • Develop zero waste textile techniques via re-roll

  • Create full scale garments and samples based on learned techniques

  • Working with local tailors, makers, and brands

Focus
